'Em Are Leather's FAQ

Is the deerskin really washable?

Yes, it is washable. Not all deerskin is washable but the way this has been tanned makes it washable. Woolite and cold water....HANG to dry.  When it is dry rough it up a bit and it comes out beautiful. Now after repeated washings it will lose "some" of its softness but remains very supple. If you spill something on it, many times you can just wipe the area off with a wet cloth.....works great. Also rain will not spot the leather.

Should I treat the deerskin with waterproofer or oil?

No don't put anything on it. Oil will darken the deerskin considerably and likely make a big mess. Just use it and enjoy.

Do you use metal zippers in the purses?

Yes all zippers are quality metal zippers. Also all stitching is strong nylon thread for long wear and durability.

What are the purses lined with?

Most purses are lined with a quality material usually in a pattern that suits the style of the bag. Some are lined with denim.

I have seen leather that has scratches and marks on it. Does the deerskin have these marks on it?

Deerskin is unlike regular leather, in the fact that it is from a wild animal. Therefore marks and scratches are numerous because the deer run in the woods and jump over fences ...they are not raised in a protected environment like cattle. Scars, scratches and nicks tell a story and are proof of the deerskin's authenticity. They add character and interest to the hide. I use the clearest hides I can find and try to avoid large noticeable marks. Now some of my designs that use the ragged edge, the wholes and marks are part of  the style.
